Ever wondered what makes you keep on playing a game – why is it fun? What makes you want to start a new game of Dota or pressing the Retry button on a random arcade game? What’s the magic formula in a game that brings us into the flow of playing without wanting to stop? I aim to answer that question and bring the answer out of games into real life. To find the right mix of game-elements mixed with perfectly designed engagament loops and implement them into learning new things and motivating yourself outside the game.
The practice of using game elements in non-game context is called Gamification and applications (like Duolingo or Memrise) that use game design through points, levels, quests etc are Gamified. Gamification singles down onto why completing a quest is satisfying; why earning a badge is an achievement; how does competition affect our desire to succeed in game and how can we use those strategies to motivate people in real life challenges. Seminar is led by Kalev Kärpuk, Lead Gamification Analyst in a New York based gamification design agency – Dopamine. Kalev has Created gamification strategies for Caesars Casino, Volkswagen, Twitch, Verizon and many more.
